Updated May, 2008 We appreciate you visiting the Cardinal Management Group of Companies on our web site. Spring is here! One of the surest harbingers of Spring I know is the advent of the Cherry Blossoms in our Nation's Capitol. No matter whether you are new to the Washington are or have been here many, many years, the spectacle of these trees and their message of warm weather and spring renewal never grows old. Spring is also the harbinger of the busy season in the community management business. Traditionally this is one of our busiest times of year. We have already begun preparing swimming pools and related facilities to open, our managers are busy soliciting contract proposals for items such as exterior painting, concrete replacement, asphalt repairs and landscaping projects. Many are also preparing or are in the process of spring inspections with our clients for architectural control and compliance issues. These are just a few of the activities that demand our attention this time of year. Our Administrative staff will do the leg work and preparation to ensure that thousands of people are able to access their swimming pools by Memorial Day and throughout the summer. All of this work goes on seamlessly and unnoticed by our customers and clients but it is an essential element of what we do. On a separate matter, on July 1st of 2008, changes in both the Virginia Property Owners Association Act and the Virginia Condominium Act will go into effect. This is second time in as many years that the legislature in Virginia has made substantial changes to the law affecting our industry in that state. These changes are substantial and complicated. Many are responsive to consumer concerns about out-of-control managers. The new laws require that persons providing services to Community Associations become certified by meeting certain levels of experience, competency and education/experience. It also requires that any entity providing services to Community Associations become licensed by the State. Also, as part of these changes, the State of Virginia has created a new regulatory body called the "Common Interest Community Board" or "CICB". This Board, consisting of 11 members appointed by the Governor, will be the body to supervise, administer AND enforce this legislation. Further and more detailed changes were also made to the important resale disclosure portions of the law. Our firm and our employees already meet or exceed these requirements and our clients can rest assured that we are "on top" of the changes that have been made. More information will be passed along to you once more details regarding implementation. Just as spring arrives and our busy season "kicks off" up North, our South Florida team begins to wind down from its busy season. Many of our seasonal residents in Florida begin to return North after winter is over and the weather in northern climates improves. We had another busy and very successful season in Florida. Our professional and dedicated staff continues to do a terrific job and we are growing by leaps and bounds. Our Florida operation has become very well known in Collier and Lee Counties as the "team to beat" in the community management industry as we are bring our style of highly engaged and proactive management to more and more communities. Thanks, team for a job well done! We appreciate your extraordinary efforts! Additionally, and as a reminder, we also offer expanded services for our customers such as pressure cleaning, janitorial services, pool maintenance, pest control and the like. Our personnel are all licensed and bonded and insured. These value-added services give our owners the comfort level they seek and deserve in having someone watching over their investments while they are away, or just to lend a helping hand and make life easier while they are in town. Speaking of making your life easier, for those of you in the Washington, DC area, don't forget about our sister companies, Property Service Group, Inc.
